Amazon AU Father's Day sale slashes prices on Kindle, Echo and Fire TV devices

If you’ve been hunting for the perfect Father’s Day gift for dad, and still haven’t gotten anything gift-wrapped yet, you’re cutting it pretty fine. Father’s Day 2019 is this week – Sunday, September 1 – meaning you’ve got a bit less than seven days,. Shopping for a gift online at this point could be a risky proposition – if you’re not careful, it’s possible your order won’t get delivered on time.

However, if you go for Australian items on Amazon and you’re a Prime member, your items should definitely reach you within the working week.

One of the benefits of a Prime subscription is free expedited delivery – meaning any in stock Prime eligible product you buy for dad today (Monday, August 26), should land in your hands by Thursday (August 29).

  • Not yet a Prime member? Sign up now and reap the benefits immediately, including instant access to Prime Video and Twitch, and free delivery on any Prime-eligible product, no matter the cost.

To help you buy something useful for dad, Amazon Australia has slashed the prices on some of its own range of devices, including Echo speakers, Kindle ereaders and the Fire TV Stick.

Between them, this Amazon gear can transform the way he enjoys his free time, and get help with the little things, like staying one step ahead of the weather, keeping up with his appointments, and controlling any smart home devices he might own.

So, if you’ve got a tech-savvy dad, then get him an Echo smart speaker with Alexa built-in or, if he’s an avid reader, then the Kindle ereaders make for an excellent gift. On the other hand, if he streams a lot of stuff on his phone, then gift him a nifty device that will allow him to cast his favourites shows and movies onto a bigger screen, like a TV or unused PC monitor.

There’s plenty of savings to be had as well, so here’s everything you can get for less from Amazon.

Amazon Echo Dot (3rd gen) | One for $49 (was $79; save $30) or two for $79 (50% off)

This doughnut-sized speaker not only comes with Alexa smarts built in, it’s also got a 3.5mm audio jack so dad can connect it to other speakers if he wishes. And don’t be fooled by its size – it’s got four mics so Alexa will be able to hear him holler from across the room. A single unit usually retails for $79, but you can get two for the same price (that’s half off!) or just get one to start with for $49 (38% off the RRP).View Deal

Amazon Echo (2nd gen) | $74.50 (was $149; 50% off)

It’s the Amazon speaker that started it all… well, the second iteration of the original Echo actually. Amazon hasn’t upgraded this model lately but it’s still a pretty good smart speaker if you think your dad would prefer an Alexa device with bigger sound than the little Echo Dot mentioned above. And the Echo is half price too at just $74.50 a pop!View Deal

Amazon Echo Plus (2nd gen) | $199 (was $229; save $30)

The discount isn’t as high as you’ll get on the smaller siblings, but Amazon’s latest version of the premium Echo Plus comes with a redesigned body and even bigger sound. It has a smart hub built in and a whopping seven-microphone array, so Alexa can hear your dad even if he isn’t the hollering kind. This is your chance to save $30 on the biggest smart speaker in the Echo range.View Deal

Amazon Echo Input | $35 (was $55; save $20)

If your father already has a superb hi-fi music system set up, then the other Echo speakers listed above probably won’t sound great by comparison. However, he can still add Alexa smarts to those existing speakers easily enough with this nifty little audio accessory. The Echo Input is easy to set up via either a Bluetooth connection or a 3.5mm audio cable. Voice commands to Alexa will get picked up by four mics, and your dad can stream music and control his smart home without having to go through a complicated process.View Deal

Amazon Echo Show 5 | $109 (was $129; save $20)

Do you reckon smart speakers are, well, already outdated? Then get dad one with a display, so he can make video calls, watch movie trailers, follow step-by-step recipes and more with ease. This compact 5.5-inch smart display is perfect for small spaces – like a bedside table – and will do everything a regular Alexa smart speaker does, just with the added benefit of visuals. It’s already a pretty affordable device, but you can save another $20 during this Father’s Day sale.View Deal

Amazon Echo Show | $299 (was $349; save $50)

If you think the 5.5-inch Echo Show 5 will be too tiny a screen, there’s a bigger brother that’s discounted as well. The Echo Show boasts a 10-inch display and bigger speakers with Dolby processing for better sound. Dad’s music and alarms will be louder, and he won’t have to peer at the display to keep up with news clips and recipes. And although it does cost a pretty penny, the Echo Show is currently $50 off on Amazon.View Deal

Fire TV Stick | $59 (was $69; save $10)

Dad can start streaming his favourite shows and movies by just plugging the Fire TV Stick into a not-so-smart TV, then sit back and enjoy everything on a bigger screen. This nifty device will give your father easy access to Netflix, YouTube and Prime Video, along with 4,000 other apps and games, all for just $59 right now. That’s $10 off the RRP.View Deal

Amazon Kindle | $124 (was $139; save $15)

The latest iteration of the basic Amazon Kindle ereader now comes with a front light to make reading at any time of day a pleasure on the 6-inch, 167 ppi display. It’s thin, it’s light and will carry plenty of books to keep dad’s reading habits alive and well. It’s also the most affordable Kindle available, and more so now with $15 shaved off the usual retail price.View Deal

Amazon Kindle Paperwhite | $179 (was $199; save $20)

The newest edition of the Paperwhite has had some pretty major upgrades – it’s the thinnest and lightest Paperwhite yet, and is now waterproof. The front light is adjustable and the 6-inch glare-free display has a resolution of 300 ppi. And 8GB of onboard storage will keep thousands of books saved for your dad to read whenever he wants. And you can save yourself $20 in the bargain.View Deal
