This fall, FX will launch an ad-free subscription service featuring the network’s current original series lineup and a few older shows. The service, FX+, will be available to Comcast Xfinity subscribers for $5.99 a month, The New York Times reports.
The service will include shows like American Horror Story, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Atlanta. But, as the Times points out, several FX series are already available on competing streaming services. Atlanta is on Hulu and It’s Always Sunny and The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story are both on Netflix. The launch of FX+ may indicate that the network will be less likely to make its shows available outside of its own platform in the future.
FX+ is similar to Comcast and AMC’s simultaneous broadcast subscription service called AMC Premiere, which soft-launched in June. By partnering with Comcast, ad-supported networks like FX and AMC are able to compete with commercial-free services like HBO Go.
FX+ will officially launch on September 5th.
