Twitter is now offering some of its most critical anti-harassment tools to every user and not just those with blue checkmarks next to their name. Now, users will be able to filter notifications by only those whom they follow. This effectively removes any tweets from random strangers and those who use Twitter to abuse or harass. A second change is the expanded availability of Twitter’s quality filter. The feature aims to “improve the quality of Tweets you see by using a variety of signals, such as account origin and behavior,” the company wrote in a blog post.
These features aren’t exactly new. Rather, Twitter is now committed to providing its entire user base with the same features it has offered to high-profile users in the past. The company has for quite some time allowed the verified accounts of celebrities and industry workers in media, sports, finance, and tech to filter notifications in a similar fashion to the new setting option. This effectively limits the notifications verified users see to only those from other verified users. And the quality filter was also first introduced last year as well, but only for verified accounts.
