Chipolo claims its new Bluetooth trackers are the smallest and thinnest in the world

Chipolo showed off the Sticker and the Clip, the company’s two newest Bluetooth trackers at CES 2017, which it claims are the world’s smallest and thinnest trackers. The two products join the existing Chipolo Plus (“The loudest tracker in the world”) and the plain old Chipolo Classic (which sadly doesn’t have any superlatives tied to its name).

The Sticker is a tiny tracker device that’s designed to be stuck onto whatever you’re trying to keep track of, with a 90-decibel speaker to easily find your lost item. But unlike Chipolo’s other trackers, which either need to be replaced after the enclosed battery dies or support replaceable batteries, the Sticker has a rechargeable battery that lasts about two weeks on a charge. That may seem dramatically low for a location tracker — which typically measure battery life in months or even years — but the Sticker has a trick up its sleeve in the form of Energous’ WattUp wireless charging. Assuming you have a WattUp charger, the Sticker will be theoretically be able to constantly recharge itself over the air, a feature which, along with its diminutive size, could help distinguish it from competitors like Tile or TrackR.

Also announced is the Clip, which at 1.8mm thick claims to be the thinnest tracker on the market. It’s designed to slide easily into a wallet or clip onto a passport or ID card, and offers a 12-month-long non-replaceable battery, after which the entire device need to be replaced (Chipolo has a 50 percent off trade-in program for dead devices).

Like all of Chipolo’s products, both the Clip and Sticker have about a 200-foot line-of-sight range. And like Tile or TrackR, once an item passes outside of Bluetooth range, owners can use crowd GPS — essentially, relying on other people’s Chipolo devices — to try and locate their missing item through what the company terms the Chipolo Lost & Found Network.

The Clip is expected to ship later this year in the spring, while the Sticker isn’t expected to land until sometime toward the end of 2017. Pricing for either device has yet to be announced.
